With winter’s chill setting in, there is no better way to fight the cold than with a steaming, seasonal drink. Whether it is a rich hot chocolate, a warm apple cider, or a festive peppermint mocha, these beverages bring a sense of comfort that is as essential as a cozy scarf on a frosty day.

Holiday drinks are more than just tasty treats; they are part of the season’s traditions. Hot chocolate, for instance, has been enjoyed for centuries, evolving from a frothy, bitter, concoction cherished by the Mayans to the sweet, marshmallow-topped delight that is now a staple of holiday movie marathons and snowy days. There is something irresistibly nostalgic about sipping hot chocolate by the fire, with hands warmed by the mug. Hot chocolate definitely is a winter staple, with 74% of the Stevenson student body electing it as their favorite holiday drink.

Then there’s spiced apple cider, a drink that captures the very essence of autumn but spills into the winter season’s celebrations. Made with apples, cinnamon, and cloves, cider has a way of making even the simplest moments feel special to many people. When it comes to the Stevenson community, 18% of students believe apple cider is the best winter beverage. The pumpkin spice latte is similarly associated with the fall season, but only 8% feel that the warm blend of spices makes it the most beloved choice of winter drinks.

Of course, winter beverages would not be complete without a little controversy. Enter eggnog, the drink that sparks heated debates among the student body. Some adore its thick, creamy texture, while others find the name itself enough to deter any interest. Even those who have yet to try eggnog often have strong opinions, associating the word “eggnog” with something to be avoided. Regardless of where opinions fall, eggnog undeniably adds a spark of conversation to the holiday season.

While the student body loves winter drinks, they are not afraid to skip the ones they find less appetizing. Whether you are curling up with a hot chocolate by the fire or sipping cider during a holiday party, winter beverages have a unique way of making the season feel complete. So, as the temperature drops and the days grow shorter, remember that with the right beverage, there is always warmth to be found.
